Truck driving racing game using Renault vehicles
UK Truck Simulator is the British chapter from truck simulator specialists SCS Software. This version joins the German and Euro editions, allowing truck enthusiasts to travel around the United Kingdom in the guise of a long-distance trucker.
The premise of the game is almost laughably simple, the player must make deliveries around the United Kingdom. In Career mode, the player is given a series of deliveries to be completed in one long wending run, to various points on the very large map.
The game's controls are simple, and the menus are easy to navigate. In-game instructions appear when needed and are easy to follow and clearly worded.
There are plenty of alternative camera views which help the player when loading and unloading, hitching up trailers and so on. The camera views also allow the player to look around while driving on the roads, which is a pleasant distraction when on the longer trips.
Unfortunately, the game's physics engine is rather soft, allowing the driver to drive very recklessly without threatening to crash or topple over. No matter hard how the player tries, it is impossible to jack-knife the vehicle. In short, the game very much focusses on the driving element and is not much of an action game at all.
While the map is large and comprehensive it is also relatively simple, with very few side-roads and secret locations to be discovered by curious players.
The game is fun, and pleasant to play, but there is so much more that could have been added to make the experience more engaging, exciting and fun for the players.
- Fun truck simulator game
- Clear instructions and simple controls
- Large map
- Could have so much more added to the map
- Overly simple physics engine, no exciting crashes allowed
